A little about me...!
Hello! My name is Elizabeth Battista and I'll be your child's math, science, and social studies teacher!
Background: I grew up in Webster, New York (upstate, just outside of Rochester) and am the youngest of 5 children (one sister and 3 brothers.) Most of my family has moved to the Charlotte area, so that definitely helps to make it home. My husband Mike and I are blessed with two boys, Luca 6 and Nico 3.
Education: In December of 2001, I received my B.A. in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics from Niagara University, NY. (I was able to see Niagara Falls, Canada from my dorm room window, very cool!) After teaching for a few years, I decided to go back to school and earn my Masters in Literacy K-12 at Queens College and graduated in 2008. I also received my National Board Certification the fall of 2010. I have been teaching at MES for 16 years - first grade for 9 years and third grade for 7 years!
Interests: When I was younger and single, most of my time was spent drawing and painting. I didn't have much free time once we started our family, but now that the boys are older I have been able to dive back in. I created a line of stationary called "Lizzy's Crayon Box" and sometimes paint watercolor portraits (painting babies is my favorite - their chubby cheeks!!!) I'm also working on illustrating a children's book, which I am insanely excited about! I enjoy being active and outdoors...tennis, kickball, swimming, playing with my family. I'm not much of a cook (extremely lucky to have married a chef) but I do love to bake. If I wasn't a teacher, I think I would like to have my own bakery! I've recently become an advocate with Beautycounter for safer skin care. Outside of the classroom I teach adults how to find safer alternatives to their daily skin care and makeup products. Teaching really is my passion!
Pets: We have 1 dog at home, Trouble, who is 8. He is a big baby, but very protective of his human brothers!
